Brash bundle making

Join us on 10th June to make brash bundles for our CaST project; restoring reedbeds around Winderemere.

Brash Bundles are used to protect young reeds from wave action that occurs on Lake Windermere. As part of our CaST project, we will restoring over 800 sq metres of reedbeds around Lake Windermere. Reedbeds act as natural filters for pollutants and are fantastic habitat for fish, invertebrates and birds, so they need all the help they can get!

Bundles will be created from willow coppiced from the lakeshore and used when new reeds are planted this summer. By positioning bundles between rows of planted reeds, the bundles will help reeds to grow into the soils beneath by providing protection against waves.

We are looking for 4-5 volunteers to come along and help make the bundles on Friday 10th June 2022, 10am-12pm.

If interested please meet at the carpark at Hill of Oaks Campsite, A592 Windermere, Lake Road, Ulverston LA12 8NR.
