Electrofishing – Various dates and locations

Electrofishing is a survey technique used to assess the health, density and species of fish populations in our becks and rivers. 2-3 volunteers are needed per site to help catch, measure, record and release fish species. Family River Dipping at Spark Bridge

Reedbed restoration – YMCA

Join us for reedbed restoration on Tuesday 16th August, from 2-4pm. We are looking for volunteers to help with our reedbed restoration work along the lake margins of Windermere. We are using a variety of techniques to restore and enhance reedbeds and for this YMCA site, we will be coppicing some scrubto allow more daylight into a shaded area and then laying and pegging existing reeds to encourage fresh growth. Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera) is a invasive non-native species. It spreads rapidly and can cause damage to the environment; as it out-competes native species, helps to erode riverbanks in winter and can cause increased nutrients and sedimentation in rivers.
