Westmorland County Show

This year’s Westmorland County Show was a great success!

Lots of you came along and ‘filled in a fish’ to let us know what you love about your local river and the concerns you have about it. These insights will be very useful in helping to develop a local community based project with Becks To Bay and the Kent Catchment Parnership, visit here to find out more.

This year we brought along the EmRiver stream geomorphology table. This is always a great fun and educational tool to explore how rivers move and respond to changes in the landscape – we met lots budding of river restoration enthusiasts!  A new addition to our stand this year was the river sensory box – there were many brave (and not-so brave!) people willing to get stuck in and discover what lies within your river!

We also had the pleasure to see HRH Prince of Wales enjoying his first visit to the show.

We are supporting the World Wildlife Fund, the Angling Trust and the Rivers Trust #NatureNeedsYou campaign throughout September and October.

We’re asking you to tell your local MP why your river is so important to your community and wildlife and to support the protections for our precious freshwater environments by transferring the Water Framework Directive into law in England and Wales when we withdraw from the EU.  We want to see robust water legislation to prevent two of the biggest problems for our rivers: over-abstraction and pollution.
