Leaky Dam Expansion – Duddon

Leaky Dam Expansion
Time: 10:00am-3:00pm
Date: 25th August 2023
Last year, volunteers helped build several leaky dam structures in the Upper Duddon valley. These dams are an example of natural flood management (NFM) as they are used to slow flows, acting as water stores and trapping sediment. As a result of this, water quality in the catchment is improved and the risk of flooding downstream is reduced.
We often have to revisit sites, to add or expand to these structures in order to increase their success. SCRT are holding a session to expand the existing dams created in the Upper Duddon last year. This is a great opportunity to get hands on and to learn some NFM techniques.
We will be meeting at Troutal Farm, Seathwaite, Broughton-in-Furness LA20 6EF (what3words: ///create.clasping.clicker), at 10:00am.
The site will be wet so we advise you bring suitable clothing and footwear. Appropriate PPE will be provided. As facilities and services are limited, we ask you bring food and water with you too.
If you can make it or would like more information, please contact Hannah Teagle: hannah@scrt.co.uk
