Electrofishing season

2024 Electrofishing Season

Join us for an exciting opportunity to help our rivers thrive!
Electrofishing is an engaging survey method that assesses fish populations in rivers across South Cumbria. Salmon and trout, key indicators of freshwater health, inform us about the state of our catchments. Each year, we gain valuable insights into our rivers’ health by monitoring these species! Now you can help us.

South Cumbria Rivers Trust (SCRT) has been running an electrofishing programme since 2016. It allows us to build on our knowledge annually and survey sites before and after restoration works.
If you’re interested in helping, please look at the dates below. Some more dates may be added across our catchment areas (we’re just training up our staff members), so keep an eye on the website.
We need 2-3 volunteers per site for this year’s programme. Dates are subject to change based on weather and flow conditions – safety first! If this happens we will contact you to re-arrange.
Take a look at the dates, come join us and make a difference!

This year we’re doing things slightly differently. We have set up a new Volunteer Management system called Better Impact. This will allow us to better manage volunteer interests, hours and events. You can sign up for E-fishing using the calendar on the Better Impact system. All you have to do is set up a free account, check which volunteer activities you’re interested in and sign up against the event you want to join. It’s an easy set up process, you just need follow the instructions here: VOLUNTEER SIGN UP
