Steve began his working life as an apprentice Fitter and Turner in Vickers shipyard. Later, after serving in the British Merchant Navy he emigrated to Australia where as a mature age student, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology and Ecosystem Management. Steve then put his degree to good use as an Environmental Consultant for 7 years, before going on to work as a Marine Park Ranger for 12 years. After returning to England in 2005, Steve worked for English Nature as their Marine Pollution Officer and for his last 12 years he was employed by Natural England as a Senior Reserve Manager on 3 of South Cumbria’s National Nature Reserves. Steve has been volunteering for South Cumbria Rivers Trust for 9 years mainly in his favourite part of the Lake District, the Duddon Valley and its environs. Steve recently became a Trustee with SCRT in 2022.
