Otter Spotting Volunteer Day

This free and exciting training is available to volunteers wanting to get involved in otter spotting and assisting SCRT in the work we do on the River Winster and River Gilpin. The River Winster and River Gilpin pass either side of Whitbarrow Scar, passing through the Lyth and Winster valleys to the west of Kendal.
Otters are an indicator species, with their presence often a reflection of a good ecosystem. Through this citizen science programme we will be able to map otter sites and identify areas for habitat improvement works in the future.
The training will take place in the Winster Village Hall on Saturday 30th April from 10:00am. The morning will start off with a talk about the history and ecology of the otter in the UK. You will then learn where to look, how to spot signs of otters and how our survey and monitoring programme will work. There will then be a practical element of the training for you to put your new skills to the test!
If you are interested in learning a new skill and helping us improve the river habitats of the Winster and Gilpin, register your interest by e-mailing our Project Officer Hannah Teagle at hannah@scrt.co.uk
We look forward to you joining us.
